This week marks the second week of the Fertile Valley Baseball league in the west central region. The schedule has been pack with six teams competing on Monday, and regular games schedule every night until June 9th.

Last night marked the home opener for the Outlook River Hawks. This is their second season since returning to the league, and Brent Larwood says the support they’ve been receiving from the community has been great.

“It’s been unbelievable. Last year was a huge surprise. We had no idea if the community wanted to watch baseball again. And with our home game we were getting around 100 to 150 people out per ball game. Our sponsors have been great, it’s unreal. It’s so uplifting.”

With it being the River Hawks season, they’re hoping to be much more competitive this year, especially now that they know what competition is like.

“We hope to have a better start then we did last year,” Larwood added. “Now, knowing the competition and league, but it’s baseball. If we show up and play we’ll do OK, but if we struggle who knows what will happen.”

The River Hawks are scheduled to be in Kindersley tonight to take on the Cubs. That game gets underway at 6:30.
