UPDATE: Wednesday, May 03, 2023, 7:00 AM

Continued dry weather has lead to even more fire bans around the area to begin the month.

As of the Saskatchewan Fire Ban map for May 2, it's noted that there are at least 18 active RM Fire Bans, 3 active UM Fire Bans, and 1 active PP Fire Ban.

The RM of Vanscoy No. 345. was the first one in the area to put on a ban, and looking at the map below a few other locations have joined them.

The RM of Eagle Creek and Corman Park were added shortly after Vanscoy to the north, and then a peek to the south shows the RM of Harris under a complete fire ban. Closer to the Alberta border, the RM of Prairiedale is officially under a ban with surrounding areas just as dry. Looking north, the RM of Round Valley and RM of Hillsdale are also under a ban.

It's important to be careful in the field this time of year. Some things that can cause fires in hot, dry weather are:
• Driving into a field with a hot exhaust
• Not properly disposing of cigarette butts
• Burning trash, leaves, or brush outdoors
• Unsafe BBQ practices
• Fireworks

It's that time of year where you need to be careful in the field.

The hot and dry weather around West Central has resulted in a local fire ban in the RM of Vanscoy No. 345. It's stated that until further notice, a complete fire ban will be in effect for the entire RM.
