As we officially reach the end of the summer this weekend, the 51st Annual Goose Festival will open up autumn with a bang. Things get underway Thursday with a Kindersley Fire Department Open House from 5:00 until 7:00 pm, with live music, hall tours, fire simulation and much more, including a barbecue.

Friday sees the Goose Festival market from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Kindersley Seniors Centre, which is located at 115 3rd Ave E. There will be tours of Caleb Village from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm with live music. A Plinko Board and prizes will also be setup from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the TD Bank, and a music trivia night will be held at the Norman Ritchie Centre beginning at 7:30 pm.

Saturday sees a full day of action, including a pancake breakfast at the Kindersley Legion Hall from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. The annual parade will start at 11:00 am on Main Street, with the Saskatchewan Roadmen Car Club Show & Shine to follow from noon until 4:00 pm.

Executive Director of the Kindersley Chamber of Commerce Kevin Martin stopped in the West Central Online Studios to talk about the parade. Martin is expecting another big turnout.

"I am expecting a big crowd like last year. we had about 1000-1500 people last year, it was crazy."

Martin then explained how many floats will be taking part in 2023 and how long it takes to go through the parade.

"It usually takes about hour to an hour and half to get through the parade, it's really, really big. We are about at 50 floats this year again."

Martin feels the parade is the definitely the biggest thing of the weekend.

Another pancake breakfast will be taking place on Sunday at the Kindersley Airport from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm put on by the Kindersley Air Cadets. And a Threshing wind-up will be held at the Kindersley & District Plains Museum from 11:00 am to 4:00 Sunday.

Races will also get underway at Flatlanders Speedway at 3:00 pm Saturday and 1:00 pm Sunday.
