Prairie Branches Enterprises Inc. operates group homes in Biggar, Kerrobert, Unity, and Wilkie, and every year they hand out four $500 scholarships to graduates coming from those communities.

Congrats this year goes out to:

  • Piper Kent from McLurg High School in Wilkie
  • Danna Santi from McLurg High School in Wilkie
  • Kennadi Bretzer from Unity Composite High School
  • Tori Machart from Kerrobert Composite School

Prairie Branches isn't afraid to award the money to people familiar with their line of work. Their hope is the scholarship encourages recipients to explore a field that assists people with disability's.

Wilkie's Piper Kent certainly fits that bill as an eager and willing employee, and jumped at the chance to speak with West Central Online about the scholarship.

"I was so happy. Not only because I got the scholarship, but so did my colleague and classmate Danna!"

Kent will be attending school in the fall at Dalhousie University in Halifax, going for a major in psychology. Between that plan and her prior experiences with Prairie Branches, Kent has a decent idea of the road she would like to take into the future.

"They have given me so much experience in working with people with disability's, that I hope to implement in whatever career I pursue in the future."

As you can see in the post from Prairie Branches above, the young adult will be leaving behind some dear friends.

"Working there almost two years in the fall," said Kent reminiscing on her time with Prairie Branches. "It's been good. I love it there."

It's a hard goodbye.

"Seeing the participants so regularly, they became a big aspect of my life. I plan on visiting on my holidays back from university."

Regardless of the situation, the Wilkie graduate made memories that will last a lifetime.
