It was the Jr. Klippers spring camp this past weekend at the West Central Events Centre in Kindersley.

Head Coach and GM of the Klippers Clayton Jardine was very pleased with how things went at the annual spring skate.

“I think it was as close to as good as you're going to get. The kids came in and competed really hard, and I thought the intensity was a lot higher than what I was expecting, which was a great thing. There were a lot of kids there that knew there was a lot of opportunity, a lot of spots to be had and everyone gave their best effort. So, it was nice to see a lot of local players from around the area that came and tried out, and then players also from the surrounding provinces and a couple from the (United) States.”

Some other news was also announced, as Jardine will be heading to Edmonton to be the bench coach at the Western Elite Hockey Showcase from May 26 to 28. Jardine talked about who approached him to help out.

“Drake Brown (approached me). He's done it in the past and there's a lot of little showcases around Western Canada that are great to get to. You're trying to find a diamond in the rough there, where you have most of your roster set and you got most of your commitments out there. But there's the odd player there that is worth it, so it's always great to scout. Every scout will tell you that the further you travel, the more players you're going to find.”

We also talked to Jardine about Farmer Appreciation Night being put on by the Jr. Klippers.

“I think it's going to be very enjoyable, with the band, some entertainment and some good food as well. That's what every farmer asked for after a hard season of putting the seed in the ground, then coming over to Kindersley and celebrating that with some good entertainment and dance to follow.”

Farmer’s Appreciation Night, which will feature comedians Will Hannigan and Sean Macomber, and will end with a dance featuring Rob Hudec & the Dusty Mules, is June 17th.

The fun starts with cocktails at 5:30 pm, and a catered dinner at 6:30 pm. Get your tickets by contacting Klippers Marketing at 306-430-8011 or email klippersmarketing@gmail.com.

The team also announced a transaction Monday afternoon, as they signed Nolan Smith to a contract. Smith played with High River Flyers of HJHL in 2022-23, putting up 13 goals and 33 points in 29 games played. The 2005 born forward also had 34 PIM for the Flyers last season.
