It was another back-to-back situation for the Kindersley Jr. A Klippers this past weekend. This time it was at home against the Melfort Mustangs and once again the Klippers managed to collect 3 out of a possible 4 points.

Melfort managed to win game one Friday 3-2 in overtime, but Kindersley battled back to tie the score at two after trailing 2-0 heading into the third period. Scoring for the Klippers were Tylin Hilbig and Russ Demo, with his first in the SJHL. Kindersley only reached overtime thanks to the superb goaltending of Logan Falk, who made 42 saves overall in the overtime loss. The winner was scored by Mustangs forward Rhett Hamilton.

Things started off much better for Kindersley on Saturday, as hometown Klipper Cam Perlinger got his first SJHL in the front of the home crowd just over two minutes into the first period. Keenan Ingram then made a nice move around a Mustangs defender and beat goaltender James Venne to double the lead. Kindersley didn't stop there, as Tylin Hilbig, another hometown Klipper, made it 3-0 on a bank shot from the corner. This was Hilbig's 5th goal in 5 games.

The second period saw the Mustangs storm back with three goals of their own, thanks to five powerplay chances, which Melfort scored two goals on. Ryan Duguay scored even strength to get Melfort on the board, then Chase Friedt-Mohr and David Coyle scored with the extra man to even the score at three. That is the way it stayed heading into the third period.

Kindersley then regained the lead on a powerplay of their own, with Danton Cox scoring his first of the season on a nice setup by Tylin Hilbig just over two minutes into the third period. The Klippers then regained their two-goal lead just over four minutes later, as Logan Cox put in a rebound at the side of the net. Kindersley held on late in the third, until David Coyle tipped in a point shot to make the score 5-4 with just eight seconds left. That is as close as Melfort came to tying the Klippers, as Kindersley held on for the one goal victory, handing the Mustangs their first loss of the season.

The Klippers will now head on a three game in three days northern road trip to Flin Flon and La Ronge this upcoming weekend.
