The first Kindersley town council meeting for 2020 was held at the beginning of this week. For the most part is was a routine council meeting.

First up, Council approved a 'Discretionary Use Application' for a home based massage therapy business. The business will be located on Overlord Crescent.

Council then approved a health & wellness policy for municipal employees. The new policy is meant to promote healthy and active living for employees and their families. Those that work for the local government will be eligible to claim up to $500 in wellness benefits per year. Eligible expenses include gym memberships, fitness classes, and accredited weight loss programs. The benefits will not be available for drop-in or one-off purchases.

A third reading of By-law 14-19 was read and passed by council. The Bylaw regulates the maintenance and management of water, sanitary, storm water and plumbing systems in town. Along with permitting and construction standard regulations, the bylaw also lays out fines and fees for the systems.

Finally, the Kindersley Museum presented to council the fantastic results from the 'Walk of Lights' event that was held in December. The event saw 1300 visitors walk through the display, and the Museum  benefited with almost $5400 in donations. The Walk of Lights committee is already preparing for next year!

Prior to the regular meeting, Council did have an In Camera session. Council went in camera for a number of reasons including: documents of a local authority, advice form officials, third party information, and protection of privacy.

The next council meeting is scheduled for January 27th.
