It may only be February. But, organizers and families are already getting set for the baseball months.

The 2016 season was a successful year of ball for Kindersley Minor Ball (KMB), and the board will be looking to feed off the momentum heading into the spring and summer.

Kindersley was able to attract a number of tournaments last year including the 31st Annual Western Canadian Oldtimers tournament, which brought in teams from around Saskatchewan and Alberta. Organizations around the province and western Canada have noticed the great condition of the ball diamonds and see the potential for having the town host these tournaments.

Although, it has taken a lot of effort for KMB and staff to keep the diamonds in top shape. The amount of care taken into the facilities requires financial and community support along with volunteer services each year. KMB will be looking to capitalize on these factors once again. "The more volunteers and in-kind services you have, the less burden it is on taxpayer money," said Chad Miller, President of KMB. "We're able to do a lot more for a lot less."

Miller mentioned how KMB will be attending the Kindersley Minor Sports Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the beginning of next month. They will be seeking a financial boost from the organization's budget for this year. "We're going to ask for $15,000 to go towards our new shop this year."

A new work shop is only one of the acquisitions KMB are hoping to make this year. A number of new equipment purchases are a top priority for the organization to help keep their facilities some of the best in the province and keep staffing to a minimum.

Miller explained how last season they ran into troubles with their air-cooled engine mower, and it will be one of the necessary purchases for the organization this year. "When you're running it in the heat of the day, you don't have hot air that's keeping the engine cold," he said. "We have to get the proper equipment in place so we're not wasting time using broken down equipment."

Overall, KMB's president is very excited for the potential of the 2017 season. He's hoping for less rain this spring/summer, and for the frost to come out of the ground as soon as possible so they can break ground on their planned capital projects.

The Kindersley Minor Sports AGM is scheduled for 7:30 P.M. on Wednesday, March 1st at the Kindersley Curling Rink Lounge. Parents, facilitators, and volunteers are welcomed to attend the meeting.

Kindersley Minor Ball registration night will be at 7:00 PM on Monday, March 13th at the Kindersley Elks Hall.
