Prairie Women On Snowmobiles are once again riding across Saskatchewan to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research.

In the Saskatchewan based non-profit organization’s last ride the ladies raised $81,389.36 for the Canadian Cancer Society for Breast Cancer Research, and $77,667.60 for the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency that will be used for the purchase of equipment across the province.

Kindersley resident Joan Phinney has been chosen as a core rider for the second year in a row for Prairie Women on Snowmobiles. Phinney got involved because her friends and family have been affected by cancer in many forms. Three of Joan’s close friends have been diagnosed and treated for Breast Cancer. After a long year and a half battle with Colon Cancer, Phinney’s father in-law passed away in December of 2008 because of the disease, and her mother is in remission from Papillary Serous Cancer.

Phinney is currently raising funds for the upcoming snowmobile ride in which she will be representing Kindersley.

People can donate online and Phinney is also hosting a fundraiser at Elks Hall in Kindersley on Saturday November 26th. The theme is “Party in Pink” and the night will feature supper and entertainment by comedian's Daryl Makk and Brittany Lyseng. The event is selling advanced tickets only, which can be bought by calling 306-460-6176.

Prairie Women On Snowmobiles have completed 16 missions, and raised over $2 million dollars for breast cancer research.
