Lawrence Ranger Obituary

1932 ~ 2024 (age 92)

Lawrence was born Jan 9, 1932, to Raoul (Ralph) and Hortense Ranger in Kindersley. He was the second youngest of 12 brothers and sisters. His youngest sister Dianne was born in 1933 and that birth resulted in the death of his mother Hortense. Lawrence was raised by his father with the help of his siblings who were still living at home. Times were harsh being raised on the family farm southeast of Coleville at SE 16-31-23 W3rd. As Lawrence got older, he helped his dad with the cows, horses, and farming. World War II came along and most of his brothers went to war leaving him with a big workload and responsibility at a very young age and then having to process the loss of his brother Ramond who was shot down over Belgium. Thinking that he didn’t have a future at farming he took several night classes to improve his education and eventually got his plumbing ticket. Shortly after receiving his plumbing trade, Ralph decided that Lawrence should take over the farm. He farmed and plumbed on the side and was almost considered a confirmed bachelor until the harvest of 1969 when Lawrence helped the neighbor, Reg Blackburn, take his crop off. Open cab combines, a grain truck with a water jug in it, and Reg’s pretty daughter driving it led them to their Dec 6, 1969, wedding date.  René was born in February 1971 and 20 months later Vernon was born in September of 1972. The final addition to the family came when Neil was born in 1975. Lawrence and Betty Ann raised their family on the farm spending many days at rinks, and ballfields. He always took time for his boys playing catch or skating on the dugout in the winter. Lawrence skated until he was 72. Lawrence retired in 2000 and looked after Betty Ann when she took ill until her passing in 2010. Lawrence spent a lot of time visiting and doing things with his sons and spending time with his grandchildren. He went into the Heritage Manor in April 2013 until his passing on May 9 being the last of his 12 siblings.
