The Ministry of Highways has some work to do to rectify a situation where they lost over half a million dollars.

This past March, the Ministry of Highways had banking information fraudulently changed by someone impersonating a supplier. As a result, three payments to the supplier were redirected to an inappropriate bank account.

The loss reports share for that instance that while employee, supplier or contractor involvement is not suspected, it was reported given the significant loss and nature of fraud.

As for the action taken, the matter was reported to police and is under investigation. The Ministry is pursuing recovery of the loss.

Two more losses were reported, as Saskatchewan Housing Corporation Rent payments were misappropriated by contracted managers for a total of $9,313.00, and then the Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation shared that a contracted administrator fraudulently inflated salary payments to themselves for the amount of $8,500.00.
