One step before provincials, the West Central Track and Field Championships are being held on Saturday in Saskatoon. With participants split into east and west for sectionals, now the west-central region's top track and field athletes will convene at the Gordie Howe Track and Field Complex for 3000 m events on Friday, then a full slate of action throughout Saturday.

The West Central District Athletic Association meet in Davidson was held on May 22. After several west records were broken in Rosetown the day before, two athletes set east records in Davidson.

The team rankings saw Davidson topping both the women's intermediate and junior divisions. LCBI won the women's senior crown, while Outlook High School collected the most points in women's U13. In the men's division, Davidson finished as the top team for intermediate, Elrose came in first for junior and senior, and Outlook finished in the top spot for U13.

Combined team scores saw Davidson well above everybody for first in intermediate, Elrose finished first for combined junior, and LCBI were the overwhelming winners for combined senior events.

The top six finishers from sectionals in Davidson advanced on to Saturday, joining the other six athletes coming out of Rosetown. Those participants will now look for a similar result to earn themselves a spot at provincials.

The SHSAA Track and Field provincial championships are slated for next week June 7-8, also taking place at the Gordie Howe Track & Field Complex  in Saskatoon.
