1926 ~ 2023 (age 96)

Myrtle Ileen Somerville (Baker) was born Dec. 5, 1926, on the farm at Kindersley, Saskatchewan SW 12-29-23 W3rd.

Myrtle passed peacefully on November 19, 2023, in Saskatoon, SK at the age of 96 years. 

Myrtle was born along with her identical twin sister, Muriel Inez on December 5, 1926, to Carl and Clara Baker.  She was blessed with 3 brothers; Robert, Calvin, and Bruce and 4 additional sisters; Clara May, Etta, Joyce, and Grayce. 

Myrtle was raised on the farm at Kindersley.  On her way to McKenzie school which she attended throughout her youth; she walked past the well-known Motherwell Dam. She was a candy striper at the Kindersley Union Hospital, where the matron encouraged her to become a nurse.  She attended Nursing at the Prince Albert Victoria Hospital in 1947.  She was short one class to become a nurse and worked as a nurse's aide.  She started her career in the Delisle Hospital, where she remained until June 21, 1950, when she married her high school sweetheart, Raymond Somerville.

They lived, worked, and raised their family on the farm south of Mantario, SK.

Myrtle was active in the community with Homemakers, TOPS, the Legion and many sewing and crafting clubs.  In 2013, she moved to Caleb Village in Kindersley.  While there, she enjoyed playing cards, puzzles, and happy hour.  She continued to live independently in Caleb until her passing. 

She will be greatly missed by her children; Bryan (Brenda); Carol (Bill); Sam (Rhonda); Kenny (Elana); 14 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; twin sisters: Grayce Dies & Joyce Hawton; sister-in-law Hilda Hawker; nieces; nephews and friends. 

Myrtle was predeceased by 6 of her siblings, including her identical twin sister Muriel, her husband Raymond, and her son Harvey.

There will be a Celebration of Life held for Myrtle on Friday, November 24th, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. form Eatonia Community Hall, Eatonia, SK.  Myrtle's ashes will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband Raymond in the Eatonia Cemetery.
