The people of Saskatchewan had their chance to vote for the worst roads in the province -- and the results are now in.

Saskatchewan's Worst Roads contest ended with a record-breaking amount of votes for this year. 6,496 votes were cast from April 3rd to 28th, an increase of over 2,000 votes from 2016. In 2015, 4,556 votes were received for the contest.

Voting picked up in the last remaining days which was one of the major reasons for the record in votes. Overall, the top five finalists received a boost from the late votes.

This year, only one road in west central Saskatchewan made the top list for 2017.

Here are the top ten results for Saskatchewan's Worst Roads campaign:

1. Highway 155 - La Loche (9th in 2016)

2. Highway 354 - Dilke (1st in both 2016 and 2015)

3. Highway 21 - Paradise Hill

4. Highway 47 - Springside (6th in 2016 and 7th in 2015)

5. Highway 26 - Loon Lake

6. Highway 255 - Nipawin

7. Highway 35 - Love

8. 2nd Avenue South - Hepburn

9. Highway 322 - Silton (3rd in both 2016 and 2015)

10. Highway 51 - Kerrobert (2nd in 2016)

Potholes were the most popular problem identified by voters for this year's contest. The criteria applied for the top ten includes roads which have excessive cracks, crumbling pavement, potholes or craters, poor or no signage, and traffic congestion.

Due to the number of roads which made the list for a consecutive time, the provincial government will have a chance to examine if the roads need a much-needed facelift. The results will be shared with government officials and the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure for further consideration.

Saskatchewan has a total road surface of 160,000 kilometres including municipal roads and 26,000 kilometres of provincial highways.
