Saskatchewan seems to be ahead of the crowd when it comes to the eventual re-opening of its province, as well as economy. It can't be assumed that Saskatchewan is leading the pack, but they were the first to unveil an extensive provincial re-opening plan. Other provinces such as Ontario and Quebec are ready to announce their re-opening plans as early as next week. The Prime Minister has stated that different approaches will be needed for each province to re-open its economy.

Saskatchewan saw ten or less cases a day from April 12-24, in a period that would suggest a flattening of the provinces curve. With the amount of active cases still dropping by the day, people are getting anxious to resume their normal lives in a setting where it hasn't been as serious as others.

It is still stressed by the government that a re-opening of the province will not discontinue the current social distancing guidelines, and it will be accompanied by the same strict cleansing regulations. The restraint on getting together with family and friends is getting looser, but it is important that you maintain a consistent circle of people you visit. You should always be thinking about who you have been in contact with during the last two weeks if you are to come down with COVID-19, as it will give the government a better idea of who to contact to further combat the virus.

"Many people have been wondering if it is okay once again to get together with family and friends. The answer is yes, so long as you continue to be cautious and maintain good physical distancing practices." said Premier Scott Moe on Twitter.

The recent problem in the province has been connected to an outbreak in the northern region, after 25 active cases have come from communities in and around La Loche, and English River First Nation. A civilian member at the La Loche RCMP department tested positive for COVID-19, and is currently self-isolating. Travel restrictions in the north had been requested for some time, and were finally introduced late last week. The official opposition states Moe did not talk enough with northern officials, and there is belief that they acted too late. Non-essential travel between northern communities is being restricted, as checkpoints have been set up at all highways heading into northern Saskatchewan.

The latest data shows that though Saskatchewan has been doing well, the fact remains that outbreaks will still likely be clustered together and that remains the biggest risk factor. This can be avoided if the importance of social distancing remains, and people express caution upon services opening back up.

The central region of Saskatchewan has especially been free of any new cases. Even after a suspected Easter bump, which proves that the population likely followed social distancing guidelines.
