Approximately 8,000 SaskPower customers were left without power for a good portion of yesterday afternoon.

A planned outage was set to run from 12:45 PM to 4:45 PM, and many were glad to notice the elapsed time without power actually ended up running a bit shorter than originally intended.

Announcing planned power outages to perform work on local systems is a routine part of the job. Residents might be without power for a short period, but it's for a net positive result.

SaskPower spokesperson Joel Cherry says this maintenance happens more than you may think.

"We have planned outages in Saskatchewan every day. It helps us do proactive maintenance to make sure we have our systems as reliable as possible, and reduce the number of unplanned outages we have.

Whenever an outage occurs, SaskPower makes sure to apologize for any inconveniences.
