The hockey world was shaken last week when Adam Johnson passed away on the ice following a controversial play in the English Ice Hockey Association.  Much of the discourse since the incident has been about neck guards, and whether or not they should be mandatory.

Many leagues are in discussions around instituting the safety policy, and the Western Hockey League officially made that decision earlier in the week, aligning them with the OHL and QMJHL as all three of Canada's major junior leagues now require a neck guard.
