The Chief Public Health Officer of Canada continues to work and inform Canadians about the key concerns and risks about COVID-19.

According to Dr. Tam on twitter, over 404,000 people in Canada have been tested for COVID-19, with over 5% confirmed as positive. Provinces & territories continue to strengthen capacity to maintain testing at a high rate to test and trace where spread is occurring.

Of the now more than 600 deaths, many have been linked to long term care outbreaks. It is vital to remain away from the vulnerable in these times, but you can still find ways to connect and support. A release of new guidance for infection prevention & control in long term care homes includes recommendations to strengthen training & practices to reduce vulnerabilities in these settings.

You can check to see what options are in place to get regular updates, or for volunteering to help from the outside or donate supports, supplies or virtual entertainment that can help in staying connected, during this difficult separation.

Some ways to keep children involved with their grandparents can be done by sharing artwork, stories and other symbols of caring through these times where we must remain together, but apart.

She also announced the National COVID-19 Volunteer Recruitment Campaign, open to anyone who can volunteer with things including case tracking, contact tracing, health system surge capacity, case data collection and reporting.

Tam released a public statment on the Government Canada Website.
