At the latest Town of Kindersley Council gathering, the regular meeting saw a number of items on the agenda that were eventually resolved. Perhaps the most important thing on the list, was the purchase of a new controls system for the rink that is being taken from the Town's Recreation Reserve.

Read more below, as first of all West Central Online got on the phone with Mayor Rod Perkins to discuss some things outside of the council news, such as the new house construction currently going next door at the old site of McKenzie School. He said that the three projects going ahead right now are making some great progress, though he doesn't expect the remaining three to break ground until next spring.

"Their contract gave them two years to build," said Perkins, "We're looking forward to getting all six of them done. Do some landscaping in there and they will look pretty nice I think."

The other important topic of discussion while we had Perkins was that of a just under $55,000 purchase of a Intelligent Rink Energy Management Controls System. The rink has been dealing with some aging equipment behind the scenes for a few years now, and Perkins talked about what getting some new hardware in the rink might do for everyone involved with the community arena.

"The control system kind of runs all the sensors, and stuff like that. It was sending out a lot of alarms that were unnecessary. A 3:00 AM alarm that the ice was too cold, which, maybe stands to reason in the winter time," laughed Perkins, "We were having a lot of trouble with it so this is a new system, and being that we have a new chiller and a new compressor in there, this will help everything work better together than what we have right now so we decided to put the new one in and do it right. Every time you get a call out on an alarm, you have to call an employee in to look at it which costs money."

That great news headlined the latest out of Town Council, and you can check out their complete list from August 8th, 2022 below:
