The Prairie Junior Hockey League kicked off it's 2019-2020 season with a bundle of games this past weekend.

West Central Saskatchewan's two teams both recorded wins to begin the season.

Delisle Chiefs

The Delisle Chiefs are coming off a season where they went 38-1-1 and were easily the leagues best team during the regular season.  After a disappointing playoff performance the Chiefs looked to start the season strong. 

In front of a home town crowd the Chiefs took on the Carrot River Outback Thunder on Saturday night.  After a close first period the Chiefs were able to take control of the 2nd and 3rd periods finishing the game with a 10-4 victory.

Key Players of the Game:

  • Chad Westman assisted 4 times with 5 points on the night. 
  • Keegan Randell had 4 points on the night, including a hat-trick.  
  • Austin Linnen recorded 2 goals and 2 assists on the night
  • Shaemus Mcleod made 24 saves for the win

The Chiefs also recently announced their leadership group for the season

  • Blake Berschiminsky - Assistant Captain
  • Keegan Randell - Assistant Captain
  • Mitchell Girolami - Assistant Captain

West Central Rage

The Rage finished last season just under .500 with a 19-21 record and will be looking to improve on that this season.  This weekend featured back to back games for the rage and on Saturday they jumped to a hot start. 

The Kerrobert Arena hosted game 1 between the Rage and the Saskatoon Westleys.  West Central started things off quickly with a goal just 3 minutes intot the first.  The game was all Rage from there scoring another 5 straight goals to take the 6-1 victory.

Key Players of the Game:

  • Hudson Killam made 38 saves for the win.
  • Blake Fennig had 4 assists and a goal.
  • Brayden Schultz lit the lamp twice, his first was the game winner.

The weekend wasn't over for the Rage as they welcomed the Saskatoon Quakers to town the very next night.  It would prove to be a tough night offensively for the Rage as they were only able to put 17 shots on net.  The Quakers got ahead early and took the final 10-2.  Brayden Schultz and Blake Fennig were the goal scorers.
