With the weather being as warm as it is hard not to want to clean up unruly vegetation. Just be sure not to trim your elms as the elm ban is still in effect.

This highly contagious disease could easily kill a tree in a couple weeks to a year. This is a major concern due to the high amount of elm trees found in urban spaces.

The ban runs from the beginning of April until the end of August, the time frame when elm bark beetle is most active.

The disease itself is a pathogenic fungus that blocks the flow of water and sugars through the tree. The bark beetles use this fungus to help protect themselves as they eat into the tree, stopping the natural defenses.
