Classes begin today at Rosetown Central High School, however, the senior football team has already been hard at it practicing for the upcoming football season. Practices started up for the team on August 26th, a week before the start of the school year.

Returning coaches this year are RCHS teachers: Mitch Wintonyk, Gary Paproski, Jeff Sopczak and John McPhee. Brendan Paproski is back to help out the team as a community coach and new to the coaching staff is Graham Montreuil, another community coach and former RCHS student.

Throughout the season, The Royals will hit the field every morning before school for practices, with the exception of game days. The Royals will be gearing up to travel to Davidson on September 6th for game one. Kick off is at 4pm. The team gets a by for week two.

Grade 12 student, Jackson Mourre will be the teams starting quarterback with Carsan Crossman backing him up.

Coach Wintonyk admitted that he didn’t know how the team will stack up competition wise, but he did say they will compete..

“The one thing I do know, is we are going to be tough,” commented Wintonyk. “They weren’t shying away from any of the contact and that’s nice sign that you're going to have a tough group of kids with a sport like football.”

Amanda McPhee will be stepping into the role of team trainer this year. Wintonyk said she will be an asset to the team with her strong organizational skills.
