The latest employment statistics indicate an increase in jobs for Saskatchewan despite a slight increase in unemployment.

According to a release on the provincial government's website, Statistics Canada reported a boost to Saskatchewan's job force with 1,300 jobs added last month compared to May 2016. 570,000 residents were recorded as employed in Saskatchewan last month, which reflects a 0.4 per cent bump.

"Our economy continues to create jobs,” said Economy Minister Jeremy Harrison. “Over the past four months we have seen positive job growth in the province."

The seasonally-adjusted data continues by stating 2,100 more people were working in Saskatchewan. Although, as the province witnessed job growth in May, the unemployment rate slightly grew.

Saskatchewan's unemployment percentage was set at 6.3 per cent last month, a minor climb from April's 6.2 per cent rating. When stacking up the unemployment percentages with the other provinces, Saskatchewan finished with the fourth lowest numbers.

The province's unemployment rate remained underneath the national average as well. Saskatchewan recorded a 10.7 per cent rate, the third lowest among Canada's provinces. Statistics Canada documented a 12 per cent rating in May.
