Folks who utilize childcare are about to feel some relief in their monthly fees.

The federal and provincial government just announced this morning that parent fees for regulated childcare in the province will be dropped down to $10 a day, starting April 1.

This would mean a reduction of $395 to $573 per month for each child under six years of age that attends childcare full-time.

Saskatchewan is one of the first provinces to reach the milestone as part of the Canada-Saskatchewan Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement—which includes a federal investment of nearly $1.1 billion over five years for regulated early learning and childcare programs and services.

Karina Gould, Minister of Families, Children, and Social Development said in the written release that today is a major achievement for families in the province.

"By working together, Canada and Saskatchewan have achieved our shared goal of affordable childcare three years ahead of schedule,” she added. “We are continuing to focus on achieving other important targets through the Canada-wide system, such as space creation and support to early childhood educators, to ensure that every family has access to high-quality, affordable, flexible and inclusive childcare.”

This is the third fee reduction since August of 2021, when the agreement was signed.
