A Saskatchewan artist has been producing colouring pages for anyone to download and print. Leena Love has not only created something to do in these times of filling days at home, but she is also hoping to create some community connection.

Love said it all began with creating pages for her little one to colour, and sharing them created a buzz.

“I uploaded to see how many people would be interested in colouring pages, and it turns out people like them, so I created a [web] page called Colouring Pages by Leena Love. You can go on there, you can download it for free and print it off at home,” she shared.

“I encourage people to share their finished work, so other people can enjoy them,” Love invited. “I know the elderly like to see what the kids are doing.” leenalovecolouring

She said it’s for everyone, though, including adults.

“It doesn’t have to be kids. You can go on there and share your work and we can all stay connected Just want to keep it fun for everyone.”

While Love’s drawings are notably reminiscent of traditional children’s and adults’ colouring books, she said she was inspired by things she had around her home, with a pineapple, and then a watermelon, lemons, and then from there.

"I wanted it to be more easy-flowing instead of the mandalas, they’re quite intense and they can be too much for some people, and some don‘t have those kinds of markers at home right now," she explained. "Kids three, four years old, they don’t want to be doing mandalas."

Mandalas being a popular theme for adult colouring pages, the radiating symmetrical patterns aren't for everyone, but neither is the flowery, fill-in-the-words types of colouring pages.

"I have a hard time finding colouring pages, myself, that I like, so I just wanted to create something that I like," said Love. "My little one critiques it, and then when she colours it, I can see what it’s like when it’s done. So, the placement is kid-approved, and also adult approved."

She noted adults have also been commenting that they enjoy the colouring pages.

"So I’d like to keep continuing on with like plants, and fruit, and animals. I’ll take requests, too," Love said.

When it comes to being creative, there wouldn't be nearly the fulfilment for the artist if they couldn't share their works.

"I encourage people to comment and request, and keep it fun for everyone. It’s nice that people can share," she expressed. "Especially when you’re in isolation or you’re distancing from people, you don’t really get to have any connection, and it’s nice to upload your stuff so people can see."
