Approximately 10 miles East of Rosetown, a 3M reflective covering sign was damaged with a large hole going through the middle of the sign. The time and date of the damage are unknown, as the Rosetown RCMP are still investigating the cause. Pictures where reported to the RCMP by a person who was driving by and noticed the damage. West Central Online spoke with Trevor Scott of the Rosetown RCMP, who explained that if anyone has any additional information to contact you local RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers.

If the damage to the sign is intentional, Scott explained that there would be a hefty fine through the RCMP or the Department of Highways. "If it was done intentionally it would be a charge of mischief under the criminal code, and that charge requires a court appearance by the person that's accused of doing it. And that can be a fine administered, it could [also] be a probation order. Depends on the circumstances and the person that's charged with it what their criminal past is."

Scott also added what to look for then reporting an incident. "If people are out and about, and they do see that somebody is causing damage to property, that if they are able to obtain a best description that they can of a vehicle that is involved. Whether that's a plate number, a short brief description of make\model of the vehicle involved or the people involved and report it  to their local police service."

Scott also added that is it important to report any damage to a highway sign, to either the Department of Highways or your local RCMP. Reporting any damage will help keep all highways as safe as possible for drivers, as well as hold those accountable for their actions in the damage of property. "If it is a traffic control sign, it is something that needs greater attention just to keep the public safe with the traffic flow."

If you have any information regarding to this or any other crime, call your local RCMP detachment or crime stoppers. Also note that when a traffic control sign or a sign of any kind is destroyed along the highway, to inform the Department of Highways immediately.
