With both teams coming off first round sweeps, the Kindersley Sr. Klippers and Wilkie Outlaws tangled in game one at the SaskCan Community Centre last night. There were lots of pushing and shoving and rough stuff in this game, which was expected between the two rivals.

The teams played relatively even in the first period, and Kindersley had to kill off a 5 on 3 powerplay for the Outlaws as both Jared Erickson and David Dziurzynski went off for the Sr. Klippers. Wilkie could not capitalize, and the game remained scoreless halfway through the period. The Outlaws struck with just over five minutes left in the first, as Blake Young started off his big night with an unassisted goal, as Sr. Klippers goaltender David Dunn tried to clear the puck, but it was knocked down by Young and Dunn was not set for the shot. Wilkie then made it 2-0 with just a under a minute to go, as Brock Harrison setup Young for his second of the game, with the second assist going to Rory Gregoire. Wilkie then took a penalty at the end of the period to give the Sr. Klippers a chance on the powerplay heading into period two.

After 1: Sr. Klippers 0 - 2 Outlaws, shots 15-12 Outlaws

The Sr. Klippers took advantage of the penalty to the Outlaws, as Shayne Neigum scored on a one timer from the point setup by David Dziurzynski, to cut the lead in half. That's the way it stayed until Wilkie was knabbed for another penalty with 12 minutes left to play. Kindersley went right to work and tied the score, as Brandon Cummings scored on a nice setup from Shayne Neigum, with the second assist going to Darian Dziurzynski. The tie was short lived however, as Wilkie regained the lead just over a minute later. Garrett Cameron scored off a bounce off the backboards make the score 3-2. Then late in the second period, Blake Young completed his hat trick on the powerplay to double the lead. Wilkie then took another late penalty to give the Sr. Klippers a chance to cut into the lead, which carried over into the third period.

After 2: Sr. Klippers 2 - 4 Outlaws, shots Sr. Klippers in the period, 27-26 Outlaws overall

The powerplay which extended into the third period could not be taken advantage of this time by the Sr. Klippers, and the score remained 4-2 for a majority of the period. Kindersley then got another chance on the powerplay halfway through the period, but once again Wilkie stymied Kindersley. Then with just under five minutes left, the fate was pretty much sealed for this game as David Dziurzynski hammered Mitch Suchan into the boards resulting in a injury and a five minute major and game misconduct to Dziurzynski. Wilkie then killed off the remainder of the game, including scoring a powerplay goal by Reece Fenrich with 44 seconds left. Kindersley then got a late goal by Byron Ismond with nine seconds left, but that wasn't near enough as Wilkie took game one.

FINAL: Sr. Klippers 3 - 5 Outlaws, shots 13-11 Outlaws in the period, 39-38 Outlaws overall

The Sr. Klippers will look to bounce back at home next Saturday after the Outlaws did a great job standing Kindersley up at the blueline. The Sr. Klippers could not really get anything going all night long, and that was a testament to the solid defensive play of Wilkie. Kindersley's only sustained pressure was on the man advantage. Game two will take place at 8:00 pm on February 26 at the WCEC.
