The Sun West Board of Education has instructed administration to explore a possible vaccine policy for Sun West staff.

The instruction was provided at the board’s last meeting, held on September 28th.

The moves comes after the Provincial Government instituted a policy for all crown employees. The policy requires staff receive a vaccine or continuously provide a negative COVID-19 test. At the time the Provincial Government said it would not extend the policy to school divisions, instead it would leave the matter to individuals boards. However, Premier Scott Moe did strongly urge the boards to enact a similar policy.

The Chinook School Division, which has been wracked with high COVID-19 numbers and seen a member of its staff lose a battle with COVID-19, announced that it would be moving ahead with a vaccine or test policy.

Sun West Administration is to report back to the board with recommendations at the next meeting, scheduled for October 26, 2021.
