The 2019 16U Girls Invitational Tournament was held in Bedford Nova Scotia from August 22nd to the 25th.

The Saskatchewan team played 5 games, and came out with 3 wins and 2 losses.

Their first game on Thursday saw the Saskatchewan team go up against Manitoba. Saskatchewan took the lead early in the second inning, and ended the game with 9 runs over Manitoba’s 2.

On Friday, it was Quebec’s turn to go up against the Saskatchewan team. While things started off good for Saskatchewan, with 4 runs to 0 at the end of the second inning, Quebec quickly caught up and surpassed them, ending the game with 13 runs to beat out Saskatchewan’s 6.

Friday saw a hard loss for Saskatchewan, as they went up against British Colombia. Things seemed manageable until the fifth inning, where B.C. scored 5 runs to bring their total up to 7. The final score was 7 to 0 for B.C.

Newfoundland was up next for Saturday’s game, which was tied 3 to 3 at the end of the sixth inning, only for Saskatchewan to manage one final run to end the game 4-3.

Saskatchewan was up against Ontario on Sunday. Ontario took the lead with two runs in the first inning, only for Saskatchewan to blow by them with three runs in the second. Saskatchewan was then quick to blow by Ontario, and ended the game 6 to 4.

Outlook native Claudia Lammers helped her team along by scoring one run each in the games against Manitoba, Newfoundland, and Ontario. She finished the tournament with a .250 batting average, and only 2 strikeouts.

The Saskatchewan team finished in 7th place, while British Colombia took first out of the 12 teams competing.

It was a weekend filled with great performances and great sportsmanship in Bedford, where team Saskatchewan showed what they’re made of. Here’s hoping next year’s tournament will turn out even better.
