There is another west central senior hockey team that will be rejoining the Sask West Hockey League (SWHL) for the 2019-2020 season after taking a year off the ice.

The Kerrobert Senior Tigers are getting ready to once again lace up their skates and get back in the game after a lack of players last year forced them to sit the season out.

Returning to the Sr. Tigers is head coach, Wayne Samson, who held the same position three years prior in 2016.

“I’m excited to be back, we’ve got a great group of guys and a young core group who I already know and have a good rapport with and it should be a good season.”

Due to many players not being able to commit to the full schedule last year because of work and other life commitments, the team had to forfeit the season.

“It’s harder in senior hockey because these guys are working and they have families so if they are away for work, they obviously wont be making the games, so now, this year, we’ve got a lot of interest and a good number of guys where it will work.”

Much to the same tune as the Eatonia Huskies senior team, Samson had a lot of interest from younger players who recently came out of the midget division and who are eager to play senior hockey.

Positions are still needing to be filled as Samson currently is sole member of the coaching staff and said it would be great to have a fair and knowledgeable assistant coach join him behind the bench.

Although the team has confirmed their return, this weekend, the details will get sorted out as they hold a camp, starting today, for all interested players and staff. Samson said they have approximately 25 to 30 players that said they will be participating in the camp but said the camp is an open invitation to any and all interested parties.

The SWHL season is still weeks away with Samson stating the season schedule will likely be released towards the middle of October.
