In August of 2022 environmental protection staff received a report concerning illegal disposal of demolition waste.

Through a joint investigation, conservation officers confirmed that the Village of Young had hired Davnn Contracting. The contractor was hired to demolish six old houses and haul them away to a gravel pit outside of town.

There the waste was dumped into a hole and buried.

The village was provided two notices to voluntarily clean up the site, when cleanup didn't occur charges were laid.

The village of Young and Davnn Contracting out of Kenaston have both been charged with operating an illegal landfill and illegal dump and fined $21 thousand each.

These charges fall under The Environmental Management and Protection Act.

The fines will go to help fund the provincial Impacted Sites Fund.
