The Town of Wilkie is one of many in the west central area who is getting their ice plant and arena ready for the upcoming winter season. West Central Online talked to Recreation Director Lori Fenrich, and she said plans are motion for the upcoming ice-skating and hockey season.

“Minor hockey just had their AGM. I know they had a bunch of positions to fill on the executives so, I'm not sure if they've filled all their positions that they had, but they're definitely in the process of starting up their season.  They're doing some equipment exchanges and getting managers in place and such. Our ice plant actually will start up Wednesday September 29 and then plans are to have arena open for skating on October 12, the Tuesday after the long weekend.

So, it'll be everything from the Sr. Outlaws practicing to there's an Outlaw hockey camp that's scheduled for the 15th, 16th, and 17th of October that usually incorporates a whole ton of minor hockey kids in that weekend. That's kind of how things are currently looking right now for the arena so, definitely in the works for the fall here.”

Wilkie recently held a Try-It Lacrosse clinic for kids aged 8-13, and it was so successful, there are plans to get another one in the west central community in the spring.
