The Provincial Championship Badminton Tournament was held in Weyburn at the Weyburn Composite School over the weekend.

Only the very best badminton teams in the province are invited to compete to determine the best teams throughout all different types of schools and programs.

The Mixed Doubles Team out of Wilkie went undefeated throughout round robin and stayed hot through the playoff round by winning the semi-final as well as the championship final by defeating the team from Annaheim. The team is made up of Megan Sutherland and Jacob Mamer, who were able to win every set they played.

The West Central Region won another medal at provincials with the Leader Girls Doubles team taking home the bronze medal against Carrot River. The Leader Girls Doubles team is made up of Payton Stimson and Kyla Tumbach who posted a 3-2 record at provincials.

Other teams that participated in provincials from the West Central Region included:

Wilkie Boys Doubles : (Miller + Gutting) 1 win 2 losses

Leader Boys Doubles : (Mastel + Leach) 1 win 2 losses

Perdue Mixed Doubles : (Hooper + Wilkinson) 1 win 2 losses

Perdue hasn't sent a team to the Badminton Provincials in over 17 years, which ends a long drought for their program. All of these teams finished top 6 in the entire province out of over 100+ teams competing in Saskatchewan.s
