Last weekend, Rosetown was treated to a performance from the Community Theatre group, which was nearly able to fill the Elks Hall two nights in a row.

On Friday and Saturday, guests came to the hall to see locals from the community as they put on a performance of Spirit. The play centres around Clara Panowski, an elderly woman living at the Happy Hollow retirement home, as she tries to finish her second mystery novel, while also dealing with her overbearing building manager, Mrs. Monroe, and her kooky roommate, Esther.

Each night, the play was nearly able to fill the Elks Hall, with only 5 empty seats on Friday, and closer to 10 on Saturday. Director Max Linklater explained that this turnout was better than the previous two years.

Linklater had nothing but praise for how his cast performed.

“The cast did very well. All of them knew their parts, and they had a lot of fun with it, especially the second night. Everybody kind of added their own, and that’s always good to hear, when they can just make it as they go, and have a lot of fun with it.”

The cast members had been meeting every Tuesday and Thursday since October to perfect their lines, and it seems the work payed off, as many people in the community are still raving about the show.

Even behind the scenes, Linklater said that everything went smoothly.

“It was a busy week getting everything organized, that last week, but that’s how it always seems to go, and then it all comes together for the weekend. That’s always a good way to have it.”

Linklater also shared that the Community Theatre group will be meeting again on March 18 to discuss their next performance, which will be ready for this year’s Harvest Festival.
