With the provincial election only a few nights away, Swift Current Online reached out to former Swift Current MLA and Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall to get his perspective on election night and advice for candidates.

Wall reflected back on his first win in Swift Current on September 16th, 1999.

"I have been a political nerd for a very long time and thought it would be the honour of a lifetime to represent Swift Current at some level of government and to have that happen, that night was just amazing and very humbling evening and one that I have never forgotten."

Wall adds that he of course had other election nights as leader the leader of the Sask Party and was lucky enough to form a government, and these nights were amazing but nothing compares to the first election win.

When asked about advice for the candidates currently running Wall said the following.

"Whether you win or lose it is a great honour. You're going to have people voting for you, the vast majority are complete strangers, people you have never met that think you would be a good voice for the constituency or support your party. And there is quite a bit of honour in that, it's quite a thing to think about. So even for those who are not successful, I hope they are encouraged by that fact."

Wall said he and his wife voted in Maple Creek the other day and his thoughts were with those on the ballots.

For the successful candidate, Wall stresses the importance of humility and to remember that if they are successful they have earned that result and people have put their trust in them and it's now up to the candidate to earn that trust.
