On Friday May 30th around 1:00am the Kindersley RCMP, accompanied by the F-Division Crime Reduction Team, executed a search warrant in Kindersley.

Officers entered a residence on Kay Crescent and arrested three individuals. The subsequent investigation lead to the discovery of 27 grams of cocaine and 3 grams of suspected methamphetamine.

33 year old Shawn W. Finlay face three charges.

  1. Possession of  a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
  2. Possession of a Controlled Substance
  3. Failure to Comply with a Probation Order

Mr. Finlay was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court in Kindersley on June 4th, 2019.

19 year old Brooke Gassner is facing two charges.

  1. Possession of  a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
  2. Possession of a Controlled Substance

Ms. Gassner was released, and is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court on July 16th, 2019.

The third individual was released, and no charges were laid.

The Crime Reduction Unit's assistance continued into the weekend. On Saturday evening around 10:30pm the Crime Reduction Unit and the Kindersley RCMP executed a search warrant at a home in Kerrobert.

This investigation lead to the arrest of 36 year old Alexander Smarch. After searching a residence on Alberta Avenue, police found two fire arms, ammunition, varying quantities of suspected methamphetamine, a suspected cannabis derivative called "Shatter" and suspected cocaine.

Mr. Smarch is facing the following charges:

  1. Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
  2. Possession of a Controlled Substance
  3. Trafficking a Controlled Substance
  4. Possession of Illicit Cannabis
  5. Possession of Cannabis for the Purpose of Trafficking
  6. Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000.00
  7. Unsafe Storage of a Firearm
  8. Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  9. Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (x2)
  10. Possession of a Firearm While Prohibited (X2)
  11. Possession of Ammunition While Prohibited

Mr. Smarch was remanded into custody, and has been schedule to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court on June 3rd, 2019.

The RCMP crime reduction unit is mandated to overtly target known criminals, prolific offenders, and repeat offenders. The teams, which are based out of North Battleford and Prince Albert, are mobile. They travel to areas that require assistance when community safety has been flagged as a concern.
