Table Mountain will be closed this weekend thanks to colder than normal temperatures, marking the second weekend they have to close at least once this winter. Temperatures are expected reach -40.

It is an unfortunate time for the hill to be closed, as they just finally got some new features installed on the terrain park. The late start to the season meant less attention went to the parks more advanced features.

Table Mountain General Manager Lawrence Blouin says they are done their snow-making for the year, and that its been a good season so far.

“We have had pretty nice crowds on the weekend.”

He knew there was a chance that the hill would be closed this weekend looking at the early week forecast, but says the hill is still on track to be open the entire February break (12-21).

Not being open during the week has limited the time available for different Table Mountain group activities. Lessons are still on-going, as well as the hill’s alpine skiing program.

“I know the kids have been practicing every weekend. Typically we have 1 maybe 2 races in the winter at Table Mountain.” said Blouin “With COVID and stuff there is no races this year, so the kids have just been training on one run Saturday and Sunday mornings.”

The hill is leaning towards keeping their weekend schedule for the rest of the season. Other features out of commission for the whole year include the snow-cross run and the complete terrain park

The Ski hill will open back up on the 12th of February, as hopefully Table Mountain can return to full operating hours yet this year, and to a full experience next season.
