With Summer in full-swing, the Rosetown Royals Speed Swimming Team has already collected 10 medals between 15 swimmers so far this season.

The first event of the year was the Humboldt Hammerheads Invitational Spring Meet on June 15, 2019. The Rosetown team entered 12 swimmers into the event, with three of the swimmers earning the first medals of the season for the team.

Jordan Merrifield and Heimarie Strydom both placed in the Girls age 9-10 category with Jordan taking first place and Heimarie earning the second place medal. Alexander Scott also secured a second place medal for his efforts in the Boys age 7-8 category.

One week after the season opener, the team attended the Swift Current Stingrays Invitational Swim Meet, bringing along 15 competitors and adding seven medals to their team total.

In the Boys 7-8 category, Alexander Scott one-upped his placing from Humboldt, taking first place, with Jude Merrifield tying for second. In the Girls 7-8 category, Maelle Moellenbeck also tied for second, earning herself a medal for the meet.

The Merrifield’s continued to place as Jordan Merrifield took second place in the Girls 9-10, Allister Merrifield also won second place in her category, Girls 13-14, and Janel Merrifield won first place in the Girls 18 and over category.

Amanda Mcphee also added to the teams hardware, earning third place for the Girls 15-17 category.

Trevor Scott with the Rosetown Royals said the team is now looking forward to a busy July, with meets in Melfort on July 6, Biggar on July 13 and the Northern Qualifiers in Watrous on July 20. Scott stated if the swimmer qualifies in the top six in their event, they will qualify for provincials, which are being hosted by the Rosetown Royals, July 27 and 28.
